Aug 22, 2012
The opening ceremony of the first biogas facility, representing the Agrokor Group's entry into the production of electricity and heat in an environmentally renewable way, was held in Gradec today. The Gradec biogas facility is a HRK 55m worth investment, realized in cooperation between Agrokor and the Slovenian company GH Holding. The total investment in the entire Gradec complex, namely two farms and the biogas facility, amounted to HRK 170m.
The Gradec biogas facility represents the environmentally most suitable way of disposing of various organic raw materials from which three products are obtained: organic fertilizer, thermal and electric power. The specific feature of the Gradec biogas facility is that in producing biogas it uses pig manure as the dominant raw material, accounting for 65 per cent of the total raw material quantity, while the rest is obtained from contract farmers from different food production areas. The installed power of this facility is 1 MW, while the cogeneration facility is in operation for 8,000 working hours per year, producing 8,000 MWh of electric power which is supplied to the national network and 9,000 MWh of thermal power, to be used for heating the fermentors, the livestock housing facilities at the Gradec I and Gradec II farms as well as for drying the digestate used as first-class organic fertilizer, representing a substitute for mineral fertilizers.
