Oct 02, 2011
The value of the project exceeds 15 million euros and agricultural products from Macedonia will be mainly distributed in EU Member States and on the Russian market
Today in Strumica, Agrokor opened a purchasing and distribution center that will be able to purchase and distribute over 60,000 tons of fruits and vegetables every year. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art measuring devices, cooling chambers, calibrators, packaging halls and transport system. This latest Agrokor’s acquisition covers an area of 13,000 m2, currently employs over 250 people, and its products will be mainly distributed in EU Member States and on the Russian market. The first products from the purchasing and distribution system are expected to reach the consumers as early as the first half of October, by which time the center will be fully functional.
"As the largest company in the Adria region and one of the largest companies in transition countries, it is a pleasure to launch a greenfield investment at this location. Agrokor has recognized Macedonia as a country of great potential a long time ago, which is why we have started intensive activities in the area several years ago. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Prime Minister Gruevski and the competent Ministers for their full support that we, as a foreign investor, had throughout the process. We can now say that the administrative authorities of the Republic of Macedonia, the business environment and the government system are very operative and that we feel welcome as investors. This is why we invite other investors from across the world to come to the Macedonian market, while Agrokor will surely continue with its investment activities in future," said Ivica Todorić, Agrokor Concern’s President, at the opening in Strumica.
Mr. Nikola Gruevski, Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, underlined that the Republic of Macedonia was deficient in such facilities and that construction of new and modernization of present ones have been and remain one of the top priorities for the Macedonian Government. "In cooperation with municipalities, the Government finds new locations and sells them for construction of new purchasing and distribution centers to achieve the ultimate goal: faster development and achievement of maximum competitiveness. The distribution center for the purchase and marketing of agricultural products built by Agrokor is a valuable investment and will significantly improve purchasing and marketing of fruits and vegetables in the area around Strumica and other regions. We are pleased to say the center has become reality and may begin to operate," added Mr. Gruevski, Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia.
