May 02, 2007
All districts in the City of Zagreb are going to have a playground until the beginning of the new school year
Mr Milan Bandić, Mayor of the City of Zagreb and Mr Josip Zaher, President of the Konzum Management Board have today officially opened two new playgrounds in the primary schools of Luka Sesvete and Markuševec. These two openings represent a continuation of the Project initiated by Konzum and the City of Zagreb"Let's get back playgrounds to children", which was presented by the end of the last year upon opening of the first playground near Super Konzum Črnomerec. The goal of the Project"Let's get back playgrounds to children" is to ensure a top quality playground in each of 17 city districts of Zagreb, where children can spend their spare time with peers in a carefree play. Besides Konzum and Agrokor, as initiators and investors of the Project"Let's get back playgrounds to children" as well as the City of Zagreb, which provided the city areas for construction of the playgrounds, the other participants of the Project are the Zrinjevac Company, which provides all the horticultural works and the Regoč Company, which supplies equipment and toys for the playgrounds. The next playground to be opened within this Project is in the district of Trešnjevka. It is also planned to open 17 new playgrounds in all the districts of Zagreb until the beginning of the next school year.
The concept of each playground in the Project"Let's get back playgrounds to children" is adjusted to the specific needs of children, citizens and their surroundings. The playground in the primary school of Luka Sesvete will be used by more than 14,000 children, who live in this district. The construction began on 11 April. On the surface area of 1,000 sq.m. there are two parts which are to be used by different age groups of children. The sports and recreational part of the playground of the primary school of Luka Sesvete comprises a multipurpose basketball playground, professional table tennis facilities, benches and FIT equipment to perform sit-ups and back-ups, which satisfies sports and other psychophysical needs of older children. In the other part there is a multipurpose equipment for younger children such as swings, jungle-gyms, bars, carrousel with steel strings (witch's hat), all situated on the anti-traumatic mat. These gyms provide to children active and various plays throughout a number of different activities in safe conditions.
The playground within the primary school of Markuševec is going to be used by 4,000 children from the district of Podsljeme. Its construction started on 18 April and comprises a multipurpose gym and double swings with and anti-traumatic mat. Under all these gyms on the playgrounds within the Project"Let's get back playgrounds to children" there is an obligatory safe zone, i.e. a special anti-traumatic mat, which lessens the intensity of possible falls or injuries of children. It was implemented for the first time in Croatia by Konzum in co-operation with the Regoč Company engaged in this Project. All the equipment is produced according to the highest standards and safety norms, top quality, design and is environmentally friendly, whereby children can enjoy playing, pulling through, crawling and running to the maximum. Upon the opening ceremony of the new playgrounds Mr Milan Bandić. Mayor of Zagreb said: "The Project"Let's get back playgrounds to children"is the best proof that a successful co-operation of companies and the City can result in constructive mutual projects aimed at improvement of the life quality of the citizens of Zagreb, especially the youngest ones, who represent the future of each city and country. Therefore I would especially like to thank to all the partners in this Project – Konzum, Agrokor, Regoč and Zrinjevac Companies."
On this occasion Mr Josip Zaher, President of the Konzum ManagementBoard pointed out: "Konzum, as a national company, has always been aware of the importance of investing into a local community in which it operates. In my opinion the projects such as "Let's get back playgrounds to children"prove this in the best way. This is also visible from the reactions of children who are delighted and enjoy playing on these playgrounds. Our goal is to introduce this Project in other towns and therefore I invite other town and county authorities to provide town areas, as Zagreb did, and contact and give their suggestions to Konzum. I would also like to invite our business partners to join this Project and contribute to a happier and carefree childhood of our youngest population."
