Winemaker of the Year – Belje Wine Cellars!
Nov 26, 2010
Each year, “The world in a glass”, the first specialized magazine for wine, gastronomy and tourism, holds the traditional awards ceremony in Hotel Antunović, where it declares the best winemaker and the best cook of the year. This year, in an extremely strong competition with excellent Croatian winemakers, the winemaker of the year title was given to Belje Wine Cellars, headed by main enologist, Mr. Marijan Knežević. Belje Wine Cellars are the biggest Croatian producers of grapes from their own vineyards on the area of Baranja wine-growing hills, within the wine growing sub-region of Podunavlje. On this area wine grape cultivation has been known for centuries and this year they were recognized as one of the most awarded wine cellars in Croatia. Beside natural amenities, through a long and eventful history of Belje Wine Cellars up until today, technology, knowledge and dedication of enologists and employees have had an important role in achieving the supreme quality of wine. With their wines, Belje Wine Cellars participate on all significant wine evaluations in the country and abroad, and this year they have won several prestigious international awards and acknowledgements, where we particularly point out the gold medal and the regional trophy for Merlot 2008 on Decanter and excellent grade by the world famous and renowned wine critic Robert Parker, who gave 90 points to Graševina 2009 from this cellar, which is the highest grade any Croatian wine has received so far.
