Katja Gašparini on the success of Istrian olive oil

Read the interview with Katja Gašparini, head of olive production and oil refinery in Agrolaguna, that she gave for a specialized webpage Plava kamenica after Istria was declared the best olive production region in the world for the second year in a row. Katja Gašparini is the head of production in the biggest olive oil refinery in Istria, and she is as passionate about Istrian olive oil as much as local winemakers are passionate about wines.
„It is important to emphasize that olive production in Istria has a very long tradition. The results of hard work by many who are involved in olive oil production, from olive producers, hospitability workers, to scientists, efforts by agronomists and the media are showing. The climate and the position can be an advantage, but without the people and hard work, there would be no success.” she highlighted.
„The fact that Istria was declared the best olive production region in the world for the second year in a row is helping us greatly with export markets, because Istrian olive oils have a status of top quality products, but penetrating new markets always requires great effort and hard work. Our starting positions are good. But in the future we will have to answer the question how to maintain the current prices with increasing quantities. It will be necessary to invest into brand strength of Istrian extra virgin olive oil worldwide, because exports and this will be almost crucial.”, she replied regarding the competitiveness on worldwide markets.
