New Agrokor Farm worth HRK 15 Mil.

At today's opening ceremony the first specialised farm for the production of veal Šarampov was put into operation. The Šarampov Farm with a capacity of 1,000 veal calves per shift was opened by the representatives of Agrokor and Belje as well as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Mr Stjepan Mikolčić. This investment is worth HRK 15 mil. The new, reconstructed farm will employ 8 workers including agronomists and veterinarians. The annual production is expected to be 4,000 pcs. of veal calves worth HRK 15 mil. The fattening comprises two phases, the first one from 45-110 kilos with 528 boxes and the second from 110-200 kilos.

The objective of Agrokor's food production is to create a high-quality, safe and nutritionally valuable product. After acquisition of Belje and PIK Vrbovec the development of agricultural production has become Agrokor's strategic orientation. In order to realize the rather ambitious plans in this segment a new production organisation has been introduced including new technologies and training of employees and contract farmers. One of the new technologies introduced by Agrokor is to be applied in the production of veal. This highly demanded product on the domestic market has so far been produced in a traditional way by using large quantities of fresh milk and based on the Simmental breed. The new production technology does not use fresh milk, and the production is based on dairy breed calves. Agrokor thus strives to achieve several benefits such as high quality veal calves of Simmental breed aimed at the production of baby-beef; creation of a market of dairy breed calves, which have so far not not experienced a high demand; creation of a high-quality domestic product demanded on the domestic and foreign markets; production of larger quantities of milk for the dairy industry. Veal is a highly demanded product on the Croatian market and will be produced under a new brand following the principles of sustainable production, animal welfare, quality, recognizability of products and food safety. The multiple benefits of such production will certainly contribute to its expansion in Croatia in the future using highly valuable resources and creating quality products of high demand.
