The facilities in question feature state-of-the-art technology on an area of 17,500 square meters, with the construction of which the total production and storage area of Croatia's leading meat industry was increased to 80,000 square meters. The new capacities will enable PIK Vrbovec to strengthen its position on the domestic and regional markets and open the doors to new foreign markets for the future. At the opening ceremony Mate Štetić, Director of PIK Vrbovec, pointed out: „These facilities are the crown of strategic investments in PIK Vrbovec. The automation of particular production processes made possible by modern technology, as you can see it here today, provides us with even higher operating efficiency. Increased production capacities open the doors to further strengthening our position on the domestic market, but also the possibility for improved sales of PIK products abroad. The investment in new capacities made it possible to employ another 95 people, with the total number of employees at PIK Vrbovec currently amounting to 1750.“The opening ceremony was also attended by Mislav Galić, Executive Vice President of the Agrokor Group, who stated on this occasion: „Today PIK Vrbovec is the largest industry on the Croatian food market. When we took the company over in 2005, it processed 8,000 tons of meat, while today we process 75,000 tons. Annual revenues then amounted to HRK 250m and this year we will generate close to HRK 2bn. We have reached the market leader position, amongst other things, by investing in state-of-the-art technologies which are the precondition for any competitiveness on the European market. The plant we are opening today is a reflection of our strategy.“
The premium technology used in the newly built facilities is among the most modern of its kind, providing for maximum standardization and product quality. Factories featuring such technology can only be found in 3 Western European countries, one of them being Croatia. The meat product cutting and packaging facility is a technological innovation following global meat industry trends. The new equipment made it possible to introduce new, innovative products some of which are already available on the market.Furthermore, the newly opened storage facility with a total capacity of 1,000 tons of finished products follows the increase in sales at PIK Vrbovec, which has recorded continuous growth from year to year. The position that PIK Vrbovec and its brands have on the market today, results from long-standing investments which started as PIK Vrbovec joined the Agrokor Group. The total investment value at PIK Vrbovec since 2005 amounts to more than HRK 1bn.Continuous investments in the company have built PIK Vrbovec to become the region's biggest meat industry and the fourth largest food industry in Croatia. This year PIK is planning to sell 75,000 tons of finished products and generate a turnover of approximately HRK 2bn. PIK products hold numerous domestic and international quality awards, and the consumer trust is also proved by the fact that PIK is Croatia's market leader with a market share of more than 40 per cent.
